Mirage 24 Rigging (1974)
Electric:
Mast Steaming Light:
- Plug - Side (from mast)
- Plug - Top (from mast) Left
prong is 1/8 inch diameter, and other is 1/16 inch diameter.
- Deck Plug (next to mast step) Outside
diameter is 7/8 inch. Holes are 5.5/16 inch apart on center.
Wiring and Switches:
Masthead:
Original Sheave Assembly:
Original Running Rigging:
- Rigging on Mast - Overview. Some spin lines are secured on
the mast. A ring fitting rivetted on the mast is loose. All blocks should be replaced. I have seen
a mast-mounted winch (on ther side) on another Mirage 24, and Mangos has holes in the mast
in the same location.
- Port Side Forward - Note braided main halyard, which
we tailed to the cabin-mounted winch to get it tight, but it still stretches under load. As bought,
the main halyard was hand-tightened and cleated on the port side of the mast (cleat is burried
under the spin halyard). Single block on deck, presumably for spin gear.
- Port Side Aft - Main halyard tailed via winch and jam cleat
to cockpit. Winch is original and seems to work. Jam cleat needs replacing.
- Starboard Side Forward - Jib halyard is hand
tightened and cleated on mast as shown (jib is not up). Like the main, the jib halyard
stretches under load. Double block on deck, presumably for spin gear tailed to cockpit.
Note lovely skipper motoring with her new 5 HP 4-stroke.
- Starboard Side Aft - Spin rigging with a two different
jam cleats. No evidence of a winch, nor have I seen winches on the starboard side of other
Mirage 24's. The vang is new (1 - 2 years old). A new reefing line runs along the
boom. Spinnaker - Note there is a cabin roof winch only on the port side. The existing
winch should probably be replaced when a starboard one is added.
- Spinnaker - Stern Hardware Options |
Detail - The U-bolt is probably for life line rigging
without a stern rail (some Mirages lack the stern rails). The hole on the thick tang is 1/4 inch;
intended use is unknown. Spin stern turning blocks could be anchored on the toe rail.
